Frugal Friday: Freecycle

Welcome to my first Frugal Friday Post! I am so excited to start this series. Today I am going to tell you about Freecycle. I discovered freecycle while I was in college. Basically what happens is people in your area post items that they would like to get rid of (goal is to keep things out of the landfill) and you can respond and say if you would like it for your classroom.  You will usually need to go pick up the item.  I have received some GREAT things this way such as book cases, book display shelf, manipulatives, classroom library books, games, clothes for my boys, and the list goes on and on.

To join, go to the Freecycle website by clicking here. Then in the search box type your city. For example, if you live in Hackettstown, NJ then you would type that in the search box.

It will then show you all of the groups on your area.

Click on the one closest to you to join.  You will come to this next screen.  It shows things that have been recently posted. You will need to create an account to do this, but that part is super easy.

Some of the original Freecycle groups use Yahoo groups.  If that is the way the group closest to you works then you will see a screen like this.   Click on the link that will take you to the yahoo group.

When you get there the yahoo group will look something like this. From here you join the yahoo group.  If you are not a member of yahoo groups already then you may need to make an account.

I hope this all made sense.  If you need help with any of it please do not hesitate to ask.  I would love comments to know what you think!!
